TrekBC Knowledge Base

Your Outdoor Knowledge Resource

Learn, teach, enjoy...

They say knowledge is power, but in our game, knowledge is survival. We cannot stress enough how important it is to be prepared for your adventures. If you treat the preparation for hiking seriously it will be a fun and rewarding experience. Travel unprepared though and it can be a totally different ball game.

See below for details on what you can find in the knowledge base.

Fitness & Nutrition

There are lots of topics to be covered when it comes to hiking and the outdoors. If the subject isn't based on hiking gear, fitness, nutrition or learning a skill you can find it in this section. New articles are being added all the time and we encourage you to send in your own to be included in the TrekBC knowledge base.

Few people can read a map and when it comes to using a compass, forget it. Although it's not essential to know how to do this around these parts (the trails are well worn and marked in most places) it can help save your life should you wander off in the wrong direction.

There are many different activities we can do in the mountains and some need a bit of explaining. Inside the members area you will be able to discover new challenges and find tips and techniques to help you get the most out of them.

So, you've got the gear, you can identify a Douglas Fir and you even know how to read a map. You're ready to hit the trails right? Not quite. None of the above is any use if you're not physically prepared.

It starts at home with your nutrition. Not many of us eat the right foods but we can share with you some great recipes and tips to help get your body in shape.

Practice makes perfect! You can't simply get up off the couch and power up the Grouse Grind if you're not used to it. You need to start out slow and we've got some great exercises and fitness plans to get you up that mountain sooner rather than later.
