What's the number one reason we go hiking in the first place? Fitness? Sure, we like to keep fit, but we can do that at the gym.

The number one reason is the scenery and the fresh air. There's so much to see when you're hiking and chances are you just blow right by it all. You need to slow down and take it all in. We have put together a field guide to help you notice more of your surroundings on your next trip.

From birds and black bears to trees and berries, you can now identify the flora and fauna of beautiful British Columbia.

Few people can read a map and when it comes to using a compass, forget it. Although it's not essential to know how to do this around these parts (the trails are well worn and marked in most places) it can help save your life should you wander off in the wrong direction.

There are many different activities we can do in the mountains and some need a bit of explaining. Inside the members area you will be able to discover new challenges and find tips and techniques to help you get the most out of them.

So, you've got the gear, you can identify a Douglas Fir and you even know how to read a map. You're ready to hit the trails right? Not quite. None of the above is any use if you're not physically prepared.

It starts at home with your nutrition. Not many of us eat the right foods but we can share with you some great recipes and tips to help get your body in shape.

Practice makes perfect! You can't simply get up off the couch and power up the Grouse Grind if you're not used to it. You need to start out slow and we've got some great exercises and fitness plans to get you up that mountain sooner rather than later.
